The trouble starts when Mr Green buys a bird-scarer. – Bang! goes Fusilier Crackpot, the new scarecrow, and “The soldiers are coming!” says Christabel, the pony, to the stupid bullocks who stampede, breaking through the fence into Mr. Gribbin`s neighbouring field of brussel sprouts, where Christabel has a good feed.
‘Illustrated by lively little cross-bred cameos (Thelwell out of Ardizzone), Farmer Gribbins and Farmer Green gives some very jolly slices of rural life and neighbourliness between two farmers who haven`t seen eye-to-eye for a long time, mostly because of an overgrown hedge. If you`re good at accents, they`d be marvellous for reading aloud. They are, in fact, most engaging stories with a nice sense of humour and insight.’ The Guardian
